Insights into Building a Lean Fulfillment Stream. By Derek Johns
This is my first Blog and as an operations professional in the field of supply chain management, I felt that a book I recently read called “Building a Lean Fulfillment Stream” by Robert Martichenko and Kevin von Grabe, was one I should share with others in the field.
Building a Lean Fulfillment Stream has changed the way I think about supply chain and logistics networks. The book gave me new insight, in using lean principles to transform and continuously improve the flow between supply chain and logistics.
As a member of Lean Enterprise Institute, I have had the privilege of learning about people like Martichenko and von Grabe. It has been instrumental in my success in the field. Being able to tap into the expertise of experts like these authors is invaluable.
If you want to learn more about “Lean Principles” the institute and it’s members are a wealth of knowledge.
If you want to purchase the book or connect directly with Martichenko or von Grabe go to http://www.lean.org. The publisher is Lean Enterprise Institute, Inc. ISBN: 978-1-934109-19-9
From my perspective, I can’t help but agree with the writers on the fact that few companies figure the total cost associated with each major function across the whole fulfillment stream.
By using the example quoted in the book, about a hypothetical Corp, the authors illustrate how the lean conversion process is a win-win for every company along the supply chain.
My experience with similar situations has given me the opportunity to measure the results of good Lean Management.
Watch for my next blog that may reveal another very help expert in the field of logistics and supply chain management.
